Update March 5th, 2005

The word for this week is that NATCA in Washington online registration is now active.  Have you ever wanted to know what’s really going on with ATC and your job?   Have you ever wanted the opportunity to meet your members of Congress and Senators?  Have you ever wanted to meet the leadership of NATCA?  Have you ever wanted the chance to influence the decision making process in the very top halls of government? Do you think it would be a good thing if your thoughts were heard by those that make the decisions which affect your job, your pay, your retirement, the direction of air traffic control, the safety of the system, your life and the lives of other safety professionals like you?

NATCA in Washington is the Union’s premiere lobbying event.  For a little over two and a half days Union members from all around the country meet for training, briefings, meeting with Congress and their staff and generally interface with the movers and shakers in DC.  NATCA needs the help of both veteran activists and new activists (maybe you?) to make this a success.  All we ask in return is your help at this event and that you stand at the ready throughout the year to act when the Government needs your thoughts in the legislative process.  And unlike the perception you may have of other Union events, what matters most here is not the size of your facility but where you live.  We need constituents from as many congressional districts as possible.

If you go to nlc.natca.net (no www) and then click on the NATCA in Washington link, you’ll find information on the agenda, the location, the issues, the dates (May 15-18) of this years NIW as well as a link to register online.  Space is limited so please register quickly.  As a rule we want to take at least one member from each facility and then members from as many congressional districts as possible.  If this is all new to you don’t worry, you will receive great training and you won’t get stuck going out on your own to meet Senators such.  Experienced activists go out on the “hill” with the new folks to help them become the experienced activists of the future. So talk with your FacRep about it, put in for leave if necessary and go to nlc.natca.net to register by no later than April 6th.  I’ll get back to you just as soon as possible to let you know if you’ve been accepted and I’m always available to answer whatever questions you may have.

Hope to see you there.
